Marriott International Opens Adaptive Re-Use Aloft Hotel in Downtown Houston

Marriott International (NASDAQ: MAR) and Trend Hospitality, LP, today announced the opening of Aloft Houston Downtown, an adaptive re-use Aloft hotel project that has transformed the historic Stowers Furniture building at the heart of downtown Houston. Owned by Trend Hospitality and managed by Fairhope Hospitality Services LLC, Aloft Houston Downtown features 168 spacious loft-style rooms, 4,500 square feet of flexible meeting space and live music performances by emerging arts at the W XYZ® bar.

“Aloft Houston Downtown has brought new life to the landmark Stowers building and turned it into a stylish destination, complete with leading-edge design, accessible technologies and a buzzing social scene,” said Paige Francis, Vice President, Global Brand Management for Aloft Hotels. “An increasingly popular choice for adaptive re-use projects, Aloft is in more than 100 dynamic destinations around the globe due to its phenomenal success with today’s hyper-connected travelers who appreciate the brand’s distinctive style and innovative programming.”

Located at the intersection of Fannin and Walker, Aloft Houston Downtown is ideally positioned at the heart of the Central Business District, just steps from METRO Rail stations connecting to NRG Arena and Park, Texas Medical Center and University of Houston. Aloft Houston Downtown is also within close proximity of several major corporations including Shell Oil, JP Morgan Chase, Chevron, LyondellBessell Petro-Chemical, KPMG, Hines New Office Tower and various government offices. Nearby attractions include Minute Maid Park, the George R. Brown Convention Center, Toyota Center, BBVA Compass Stadium and the Theater District.

“The redevelopment of the Stowers Building into an Aloft Hotel has been an exciting project that has helped accelerate the revitalization of this area in downtown Houston and provide the next generation of travelers with a dynamic new lodging option,” said Nazar Momin, President of Trend Hospitality. “The project has also helped generate tax revenue for the city, create jobs and increase the supply of high-caliber hotel rooms in close proximity to the convention center.”

“This is our fourth hotel development project. We are happy to develop an Aloft Hotel in Houston Downtown which is the fourth largest hospitality market in the country,” said Ali Momin, Vice President, Development and Strategic Investment, Trend Hospitality.

The building, designed by architects Green & Finger, is an excellent example of the early twentieth century high-rise Commercial Style in Houston and visually illustrates the influence of the Chicago School.  While the historic brick facade has remained in place and undisturbed, the interior has been completely repurposed into a Mid-Century modern hotel.

Aloft Houston Downtown features SPG Keyless—the industry-first keyless entry system that enables guests to use their smartphone or Apple watch as a room key—and fast and free Wi-Fi throughout the property. The hotel’s 4,500 square feet of meeting space includes one conference room and six breakout meeting rooms. Additional amenities include an outdoor rooftop Splash pool with a rooftop bar and three fire pits; a Re:chargeSM fitness center; and Re:fuelSM by Aloft – a one-stop gourmet grab & go food and beverage area. In addition, guests will enjoy live, local music at the brand’s signature W XYZ® bar as part of the signature Live At Aloft Hotels music series.
