Marriott International Ranks as Most Preferred International Hotel Brand in India

IndiaHong Kong, April 15, Marriott International is pleased to announce that the company has been recognized as the most preferred international brand in India by HVS India, a renowned leading hotel consulting firm. The company also achieved placement in the top-five for most-preferred food and beverage operators. HVS India shared the results of its second Stakeholder Sentiment Survey “The Indian Owner Speaks” at the annual Hotel Investment Conference South Asia (HICSA) in April 2016.

The Stakeholder Sentiment Survey highlights the opinions, perceptions and concerns of Indian hotel owners, who own almost 30,000 hotel rooms among 35 hotel brands (domestic and international) throughout India. This represents more than 26% of the country’s hotel rooms inventory, across varied market positioning and locations.

Marriott International and Mori Trust Group to Bring New Level of Luxury to Celebrated Historic City

Hong Kong, China, 3 March 2016 – Today Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) and Japan’s leading real estate development company Mori Trust Group, announced they plan to open JW Marriott Hotel Nara, Japan in the spring of 2020 – the same year as the Tokyo Olympics. The new hotel will mark the JW Marriott brand’s debut in Japan, Nara's first luxury property and the continuation of a successful partnership between Marriott International and Mori Trust Group.  Marriott International will operate the hotel under a long-term management agreement with Mori Trust Group.

Marriott International and Mori TrustThe agreement is part of a long-term relationship between Marriott International and Mori Trust Group, which began with the signing of three hotels in 2013 and an additional five hotels earlier this year. Construction of the 150-room JW Marriott Nara is scheduled to begin in 2017 and the hotel is expected to open its doors to guests in the spring of 2020.

Marriott International Expands in Japan with Five Mori Trust Hotels

Hong Kong, China, February 22, 2016 – Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) and Japan’s leading lodging company Mori Trust Group today announced the signing of five hotels in Japan under the iconic Marriott Hotels brand. The agreements for five Mori Trust hotels will see Marriott International double the footprint of its flagship Marriott Hotels brand in Japan, and will increase its Japanese presence by one-third as the company reaches its 20th property, upon completion of the rebranding of all hotels.

Over the next two years, Mori Trust Group will renovate five existing Laforet properties and rebrand them as Marriott Hotels, offering approximately 840 rooms. The agreements between the two companies extend a relationship that has seen the successful opening of the Tokyo Marriott Hotel, Courtyard by Marriott Tokyo Station Hotel and Courtyard by Marriott Shin-Osaka Station Hotel. Both companies look forward to further expanding their partnership.

The five rebranded hotels – Lake Biwa Marriott Hotel (formerly Laforet Biwako), Nanki-Shirahama Marriott Hotel (formerly Laforet Nanki-Shirahama), Fuji Marriott Hotel (formerly Laforet Yamanakako), Izu Marriott Hotel Shuzenji (formerly Laforet Shuzenji), and Karuizawa Marriott Hotel (formerly Laforet Naka-Karuizawa) – are all located in Japan’s most scenic destinations. They are part of the large-scale hotel renovation plan announced by Mori Trust Group in October 2015 and an investment of approximately 16 billion yen. The agreements also demonstrate Mori Trust Group’s effort in supporting the Abe administration’s “Regional Revitalization” initiative, which stresses the growing importance of tourism in the economy.

These agreements are part of Marriott International’s strategic expansion plans across Asia and aim to meet the needs of the rapidly growing number of inbound travelers into Japan.

Marriott International and Eastern Crown Partner to Launch “Fairfield by Marriott®” a New Affordable Mid-range Hotel for Travelers Across China

(NASDAQ: MAR) and Eastern Crown Hotels Group, one of China’s fastest growing lodging groups, today, signed an exclusive development agreement to bring the “FairfieldSM by Marriott®” brand to mainland China. The agreement targets having 140 hotels signed in five years, of which 100 are expected to be opened by 2021. The introduction of the Fairfield brand is a significant milestone in Marriott International’s expansion into the midscale hotel segment in China, and is part of the company’s strategic plan to expand rapidly across a broad spectrum of price tiers and locations across the country. Each Fairfield hotel will have between 100-150 rooms.

According to the study conducted by Phocuswright Japan1, the annual sales for online travel booking in the Japanese market in 2013 was JPY 2.9 trillion, which has increased by 23% compared to that in 2011.  The online sales for travel package now account for 33% of total travel sales in Japan. The study indicates that the increasing number of Japanese consumers will go online to make travel bookings, thus online travel booking is likely to uptrend in coming years.
