Cancun Marriott Resorts Top Celebrated Living “Platinum Hotels” List

Sister properties voted by readers as top two best hotels in their region.

This is the second year in a row that readers vote the JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa as the number one hotel in the region, and the property’s fifth consecutive year ranking among the top five. The CasaMagna Marriott Cancun Resort climbed two spots, voted by readers as the number two resort in region in its fourth consecutive year on the list.

Celebrated Living is American Airlines’ luxury in-flight magazine distributed quarterly in first and business class cabins and in airport Admirals Club lounges worldwide. Marriott Hotels Puts the World in Your Hands – Expands Mobile Check-in and Checkout for Marriott Rewards Members to Nearly 500 Hotels

To put even more power in the hands of travelers, Marriott Hotels, the flagship brand of Marriott International (NASDAQ:MAR) has expanded mobile check-in and checkout globally for Marriott Rewards members to nearly 500 hotels. This means Marriott Rewards guests from London to Dubai to Shanghai to Mexico City to New York can simply check-in and checkout using the wildly popular Marriott Mobile app on their smartphone. First introduced last year at its hotels in the United States and Canada, Marriott Hotels mobile check-in and checkout is now available in every continent where its nearly 500 properties are located.* 

With the Marriott Mobile app, check-in and checkout is simple to use. Marriott Rewards members receive a push notification on their Apple iPhones or Android devices after 4 pm on the day before their arrival alerting them they can check-in. Then they receive an automatic notification when their room is ready. Because payment information is stored within members profiles, guests simply walk up to the expedited mobile check-in desk where their pre-programmed key card will be waiting for them.

CheckOut_ESAt the end of their stays, guests receive a push notification alerting them mobile checkout is available. Upon completion, guests will then be prompted to provide an email address where their bill will be sent, allowing them to bypass the front desk.

“When we first began testing mobility, we went straight to the experts, our guests, who told us they wanted the power to check-in and checkout on their smartphones,” said Paul Cahill, senior vice president of brand management for Marriott Hotels. “Among Millennials, nine out of ten who tried mobile check-in and checkout for the first time gave it high marks and said they would use it again for their next stay.”

Marriott Hotels Celebrates Grand Opening in the Salsa Capital of the World

Marriott Hotels, the flagship brand of Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR), celebrates the grand opening of Cali Marriott Hotel, its first property in Cali, Colombia, and the company’s third in the country. Surrounded by the high-tech features and iconic glamour of the all-new Marriott, the 300 VIP guests, enjoyed the pulsating rhythms and vibrant vitality for which the destination of Cali – the Salsa Capital of the World – is known.

The 170-room hotel, developed under an agreement with Real Hotels and Resorts, S.A. and Grupo Poma, represents Marriott’s growing presence in Colombia. The night of celebration offered the perfect opportunity to showcase the iconic brand’s belief that travel should be brilliant to attract the next generation of travelers.

Chefs from the hotel’s restaurants The Market and Tanoshi, tantalized guests with an array of international dishes, from a fresh pasta station to a ceviche bar, finishing off with a sinfully delicious chocolate room inspired by “Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.

The event program also featured property tours to enable guests to get a full look at the new hotel including a modern room design equipped with black-out windows, luxury bedding, high-quality personal care amenities and high-speed internet.

Cali Marriott Hotel is the third hotel under the Marriott International portfolio in Colombia following the success of its predecessors, Marriott Hotel Bogota (2009) and JW Marriott Bogota (2010). The opening not only emphasized the company’s rapid expansion in the region, but also its commitment to booming markets in Latin America.

Chihuahua, Mexico to Receive a New Courtyard by Marriott Hotel

Courtyard by Marriott Chihuahua guestroomWeston, Fla., December 3, 2013 - Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAR) announced today plans to open the first Courtyard by Marriott brand hotel in the capital city of Chihuahua, Mexico, the twelfth largest city in the country and home to large brand name manufacturing facilities such as Ford Motor Co., Sumitomo Electrical, Honeywell, Hallmark, and LG Electronics. The hotel project was signed with a group of local, prominent investors from Chihuahua with over 36 years of experience and a portfolio that includes over 7 local hotels. 

The 138-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel, scheduled to open in April 2015, will be located inside of the highly anticipated Citadela Life Style Center - Distrito Uno complex, a 65,000 SM mixed-use development that includes prime office space, residences, a casino, shops and over 20 restaurants.

Mobile Check-In Goes Global at Marriott Hotels

The faster, easier and more convenient mobile check-in from Marriott Hotels, the signature brand of Marriott International is now available at 20 additional Marriott hotels* in 19 countries including United Kingdom, Mexico, United Arab Emirates and India.  First launched at 329 hotels in the U.S. and Canada, the mobile check-in feature on the Marriott Mobile App has expanded internationally, representing the broadest mobile offering of its kind in the lodging industry.

According to research by GroupM Next*, 57 percent of business travellers aged 21-39 use their smartphone to book a hotel.  These younger travellers are also more likely to use mobile devices to enhance their travel experiences.  Marriott Hotels expects to complete the full global roll out of mobile check-in at all 500 hotels, as well as offer check-out functionality, in the first half of 2014.  

With the Marriott Mobile App, check-in is simple.  Marriott Rewards members, who have downloaded the app, can check-in through a smartphone as early as 4 pm the day before arrival, receiving an automatic notification when the room is ready. On arrival, Marriott Rewards guests simply go to the expedited mobile check-in desk where a key card will be ready and waiting. 

“As Marriott developed the app and tested mobile check-in, we engaged customers, asking for their feedback to perfect the experience and learn what mattered most to them,” said Paul Cahill, senior vice president of brand management for Marriott Hotels. “Mobile check-in is just the start.  Our guests are more mobile and global than ever before and technology is increasingly important to them, which is why we will add check-out next year.  We will continue to solicit feedback from our guests as we enhance the travel experience with Marriott.”

The brand’s mobile innovation will continue as Marriott Hotels has launched 12 mobile “incubator” hotels in the U.S. to test future mobile enhancements.   • Guest room - In The Underground – the company’s subterranean innovation lab – Marriott Hotels is working on the next generation guest room.  The lab offers rapid prototyping with frequent travel program that allows members to earn hotel points or airline miles for every dollar spent during each stay. Marriott International and FibraHotel Announce Affiliation and Aggressive Growth Plans in Mexico by Introducing Six Hotels to the Mexican Market

Fibra imageToday Marriott International (NASDAQ: MAR) announced plans to operate 20 hotels expected to be developed by FibraHotel, the largest and first publicly traded Mexican lodging REIT (BMV: FIHO12), across key Mexican cities by 2016. The first six hotels, whose development contracts were signed this week, will add approximately 800 rooms to the Mexican market and create well over 400 jobs for Mexican nationals.

New Survey Finds Americans Feel They Need Help With Romance; Marriott Caribbean & Mexico Resorts Responds With “Cupid On Call”

NEW YORK, NY - According to a new survey of more than 850 Americans conducted by Marriott Caribbean & Mexico Resorts (www.paradisebymarriott.com), a majority feel that, when it comes to love, they are more romantic than their partners but could still use a little help to spark passion in their relationship.

The survey also found an overwhelming 92 percent of respondents agreeing that traveling as a couple provides sparks in the relationship, however 51 percent felt they don’t plan amorous getaways often enough. More than 57 percent of respondents also lamented that, when it came to remembering anniversaries and special occasions, their partner was more likely to be the forgetful one.

As a remedy, the collection of eight luxurious resorts in seven destinations across the Caribbean and Mexico has developed “Cupid on Call”, a new “emergency romance program” designed to help even those most romantically challenged spice up – or repair – their relationships. The program features a menu of love-inspiring amenities available for purchase and delivery, including flowers, dinner on the beach, chocolate and champagne upon arrival, and couples-themed spa treatments, as well as complimentary offerings such as suggestions for the most romantic locations around the resort and destination. Add-on offerings at individual resorts may include a selection of romantic greeting cards, choice of love poems and love-inspired music to help set the mood.

According to Michelle Bozoki, director of marketing and eCommerce for Marriott and Caribbean and Latin America Resorts, the “Cupid on Call” program is the antidote for those time-starved romantics who are trying to find ways to reconnect.

“In today’s hectic, stress-filled world, couples are bombarded with so many distractions that they don’t always find the time to be romantic. So we’ve created the ‘Cupid on Call’ program to help even the most affection-starved couples feel like they are in a romance novel,” said Bozoki. “Essentially we are giving even the least romantic and most forgetful partner the chance to make up for it while they are staying with us. Whether they need to say ‘I love you’ or even ‘I’m sorry’ we’re here to help.”

Marriott Caribbean & Mexico Resorts’ “Cupid on Call” amenities are available now and will run throughout 2014. Guests wishing to take advantage of this program can alert hotel staff upon arrival or check within the resort activities guide or the concierge desk for all available offerings.

According to Bozoki, the survey was originally designed to be a fun way to glean information on traveler preferences but became an eye opener on how romantic the respondents perceived their partners -- and themselves -- to be.

“It was interesting for us to see how many people felt they needed some assistance in planning for their romantic holiday together,” said Bozoki. “It was also intriguing to see how they perceived their partner’s attitude on romance. It became obvious that a little help would be appreciated.”
 
Among the survey’s findings:
• 43 percent of travelers expressed interest in utilizing the help of a third party to plan romantic activities and gestures on vacation.
• 50 percent agreed an ideal romantic date on vacation is taking in a beautiful sunset together on the beach.
• 57 percent of respondents believed they were more romantic than their partner.
• 48 percent said they were more likely to plan a romantic escape than their partner.
• 50 percent said taking in the sunset by the beach is an ideal romantic date on vacation.
• 43 percent reported flowers are the best way to say “I’m sorry”.
•  “The Notebook” was voted most all-time romantic movie, closely followed by “Sleepless in Seattle” and the classic, “Casablanca”.
• Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight” was deemed most romantic song, followed by “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston and Percy Sledge’s “When a Man Loves a Woman” at 24 percent.
• 43 percent voted Prince William and Kate Middleton as the ideal celebrity couple to double date with, out ranking power houses Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith.
