Courtyard by Marriott and USA Football Hit The Road in Search for Inspiration

Gini-Gladstone,-Courtyard-Marketing,-Todd-Heap,-former-NFL-Tight-End,-Keith-Short-and-Charles-Elliott,-Inspiring-Greatness-honoreesBethesda, Md. - September 18, 2014 - Courtyard by Marriott teams up with independent nonprofit USA Football to pay tribute to individuals who contribute to youth success in its “Inspiring Greatness” recognition program. Launched last year, Inspiring Greatness will honor 28 of the most deserving youth coaches and volunteers in the country with $1,000 grants for new equipment to improve player safety – more than double the number of recipients in 2013.  At the end of this season, USA Football and Courtyard, will select four finalists for a chance to win a grand prize of an additional $4,000 in grants.  Marriott is the Official Hotel Partner of USA Football, and this program is an ideal extension of that partnership.  

“Courtyard has a long tradition of giving back to the community and the “Inspiring Greatness” program enables us to show our appreciation and support for coaches and volunteers who help develop and mentor children,” said Callette Nielsen, vice president and global brand manager for Courtyard by Marriott. “We are excited to partner with USA Football in this nationwide search and look forward to celebrating these dedicated leaders who inspire us all.”

Thirteen of the winners from select markets will be invited to attend Courtyard’s tailgate events as special guests, where they will have the chance to meet a local NFL legend. In addition to grants, the winners will also receive a commemorative helmet. 

“Youth and high school football coaches do so much more than teach a game to our kids,” USA Football Executive Director Scott Hallenbeck said. “They’re role models whose positive words and actions can make a significant difference in the life of a young person. We’re proud to join Courtyard to salute these women and men who personify the sport’s inherent values in extraordinary ways.”

Courtyard Tackles the Season Like an "All-Pro"

Bethesda, Md., September 2, 2014 — Kicking off the 2014 National Football League (NFL) season, Courtyard by Marriott announces a schedule packed with guest excitement, fan activities and fun surprises. Courtyard embarks on its fourth year as “The Official Hotel of the NFL” with new NFL-themed commercials, a major fan event at the Kickoff game in Seattle, plus contests, guest packages and original content.

True to its commitment of enhancing the guest experience through its alignment with the NFL, Courtyard is rolling out unique experiences to fans throughout the season: 

  • KICKOFF: At 2014 NFL Kickoff in Seattle, the brand will host two days of events on September 3-4 for fans through its “Courtyard @” mobile experience program at the NFL Gameday Village in Pioneer Square. Featuring elements of the newly designed Bistro that serves as a hub for guests during NFL nights, the Courtyard pod will host continuous action, including an appearance by Seattle football legend Shaun Alexander, a Sirius XM live radio broadcast stage, an interactive fan photo experience and a series of giveaways and instant win-sweepstakes.
  • COURTYARD CAMERA: In anticipation of the upcoming season, Courtyard invited all-pro quarterback Nick Foles to give fantasy leagues in Philadelphia the surprise of a lifetime. Foles traded in his helmet and pads for a fake mustache and apron to adopt a hidden identity as a Courtyard hotel server. As he surprised unsuspecting fantasy leagues, Courtyard captured their reactions on hidden cameras. The video can be found at youtube.com/CourtyardByMarriott 
  • TAILGATES: Expanding on last year’s popular tailgate series, Courtyard is upping its game with 13 tailgates across the country this season. The events will feature NFL legends, food and fun for guests and invited local fans. Taking place on Thursday nights in the home team’s city, two lucky winners from each tailgate will be treated like VIP’s with tickets to that night’s match up.
  • CONTESTS: Courtyard and the NFL have teamed up to provide guests with an “All-Pro” interactive social experience. Running now through October 23, fans can test their NFL IQ for a chance to win an exclusive prize or one of two Grand Prizes; a trip to the 2015 Pro Bowl or 2015 NFL Draft.  Additionally, beginning on October 27- November 23, Courtyard will run an “All-Pro” challenge, asking followers to post a photo on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram of an action that best exemplifies their “All-Pro” look for a chance to win one of two Grand Prizes; a trip to Super Bowl XLIXor a trip to all of their favorite team’s regular season road games for the 2015-2016 season. Courtyard Arrives at Comic-Con to Treat Fans to Cosplay Make-Up Lab

Courtyard-Super-HeroBethesda, Md., July 23, 2014 — What is a hotel brand like Courtyard by Marriott doing at San Diego Comic-Con? Simple. The hotel brand is connecting with travelers and having a little fun. Courtyard is enabling Comic-Con fans to compete to be crowned “King” and “Queen” in a cosplay contest, featuring author, George R.R. Martin (visionary behind the “Game of Thrones” series) actor, Norman Reedus (“The Walking Dead”) and famed special FX maestro, Greg Nicotero (“The Walking Dead”) as the distinguished panel of judges.

The experience is the second stop in the “Courtyard @” campaign that launched earlier this year at SXSW. Connecting with travelers at the hottest events through customized experiences with its mobile pod, Courtyard @ showcases the brand’s latest innovations while helping future hotel guests have a little fun on their trip.

Stationed at the Interactive Zone at Petco Park, the Courtyard@Super Hero HQ experience will offer attendees free make-up treatments and touch-ups at the hands of a top Hollywood special FX make-up team throughout the convention (July 24 – 27). 

  • “Hands-on Service” (Make-up Stations) – Courtyard brings its hallmark guest service to another dimension by allowing Comic-Con attendees to undergo make-up treatments from a professional staff of prosthetic make-up artists. Both touch-ups and makeup transformations will be offered, as guests can choose from existing designs or create their own customized original.
     
  • “Royal Treatment” (Courtyard’s King/ Queen of Cosplay Contest) – Elite cosplayers will be crowned by Reedus himself as the King or Queen of Cosplay, as the actor handpicks winners from a group of finalists selected by Courtyard’s roving judges scouring the scene for innovative looks from attendees. Martin will personally meet with the winners, and Nicotero will offer fans and finalists tips on their “cosplay” creations with a live make-up demo.  
     
  • “From Guest Room to Green Room” Comfort – Since character transformation can be taxing, Courtyard also invites attendees to comfortably recharge while sampling the amenities of the  brand’s next-generation guest room.  

Inside the mobile pod, fans can bring their comic book character to life with a customizable photo sharing platform, which allows cosplayers to select a relevant backdrop best-suited for their character, personalize a text script and share their new look with their friends.    

  • “Legendary Innovators LIVE” (Live Q&As) – As a hotel brand that pioneered the select service category more than thirty years ago by creating the first-ever business traveler hotel, Courtyard pays tribute to that spirit by hosting live fan chats with visionary author Martin, renowned make-up designer Nicotero, and Reedus, TV’s most legendary zombie hunter. Fans ask the questions as our legends provide the answers on Courtyard’s staging area, outside of the mobile pod.

Courtyard by Marriott Expands to Bosnia & Herzegovina

Courtyard-SarajevoLondon, UK, July 10, 2014 Courtyard by Marriott, a Marriott International brand designed especially to address the needs of business travellers, plans to open its first hotel in Bosnia and Herzegovina next year.  The 130-room Courtyard by Marriott Sarajevo is expected to open in mid-2015 and will operate under a franchise agreement with Lake d.o.o. and Interstate Hotels & Resorts.  The hotel will be the second Marriott International property in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the Residence Inn Sarajevo, which will open in early 2015.

Marriott Turns Up the Volume on Green Building

Courtyard Kansas CityCourtyard Kansas City at Briarcliff celebrates LEED® self-certification on Earth Day.

Kansas City, MO – April 22, 2014Marriott International, Inc. (NASDQ:MAR) announced today the Courtyard Kansas City at Briarcliff is the company’s first hotel in Missouri to earn LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design™) certification through the U.S. Green Building Council® (USGBC®) prototype pre-certification program.

Courtyard Kansas City and LEED signThe only LEED Certified Marriott property in Missouri, the Courtyard Kansas City at Briarcliff was constructed on top of a mine, land previously undevelopable, and 10 percent of building materials used contain recycled content. Like all Marriott LEED Certified hotels, this hotel features a number of elements that focus on energy conservation, water efficiency and recycling.  Some of those elements include:


  • White roofing material that reflects heat to save energy.
  • Kohler low volume, plumbing fixtures.
  • Philips low energy consuming LED lighting and controls
  • A salt water pool, reducing the number of chemicals used in treating the pool.
  • An electric car charging station, and preferred parking for low-emission cars and carpoolers.
  • 20 foot floor to ceiling glass wall of windows in the ballroom for day lighting and optimal view.

“Sustainable development is a priority for Marriott. LEED certification earned by our properties demonstrates our commitment to the environment while simultaneously appealing to our environmentally conscious customers,” said Denise Naguib, vice president, sustainability & supplier diversity.  “The LEED prototype pre-certification program allows our owners and franchisees to achieve LEED status throughout the development process, so that it is fully certified upon building completion.”

Marriott is the only hotel company to earn prototype pre-certification approval from the USGBC. Pre-certification streamlines the process for hotel developers and owners, saving both time and money. Owners of these hotels save about $100,000 in upfront costs and six months of design time.  Additionally, owners can expect to save 25 percent in energy and water consumption and should recover their additional investment in five to six years—possibly sooner depending on federal and local government incentives.
