Hotel de la Paix, Geneva to Become a Ritz-Carlton Partner Hotel in the Swiss Capital of Peace

The Ritz Carlton, Hotel de la Paix Geneva

Chevy Chase, Md., October 19, 2015 - The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company L.L.C. is proud to announce a signed agreement with the Manz family in Switzerland which will add the Hotel de la Paix in Geneva as a partner hotel as of December 16, 2015. The boutique property sits on the banks of Lake Geneva, (Lac Leman) in Switzerland.

Following an extensive renovation planned by the Manz family, the hotel is scheduled for re-launch at the end of 2016 as The Ritz Carlton, Hotel de la Paix Geneva. The lakeside property will undergo a comprehensive renovation which includes reducing the number of hotel guestrooms to 75 stunning luxury accommodations featuring refreshed, modern and generously proportioned suites.

The Hotel De la Paix, built in the center of Geneva in 1865, has been witness to a multitude of historical world events. In January 1872, the international arbitration tribunal for the Alabama Claims met at the Hotel De la Paix. Today, the Alabama Salon still serves as a reminder of this important event within the hotel. And as with all iconic treasures in Europe, many decorated and well-known personalities have been hosted, one of which was Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco, who whiled away the hours on the banks of Lake Geneva savoring the glorious views over Mont Blanc.

“It is an honor to bring The Ritz-Carlton experience to Switzerland and to partner with the highly regarded Manz family,” said Herve Humler, President and Chief Operating Officer, The Ritz-Carlton. “Geneva is an extremely desirable destination for travelers and we will now be able to offer a sensational travel experience to complement the full portfolio of Ritz-Carlton properties around the globe,” he added.

The partnership commences in the year that sees the Hotel De la Paix celebrate its 150th anniversary. Ljuba Manz-Lurje, Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Manz Privacy Hotels Switzerland AG, said “I am delighted that the hotel De La Paix, the jewel of Geneva, will be managed by The Ritz-Carlton, one the of the world’s most famous and luxurious hotel companies.”

Embedded between Alpine peaks and the hilly terrain of the Jura, the French-speaking city of Geneva lies in the bay where the Rhone leaves Lake Geneva. With its humanitarian tradition and cosmopolitan flair, the European seat of the United Nations and headquarters of the Red Cross is best-known as the capital of peace. Water flows through the center of the city into the River Rhône and museums, shops, restaurants, and parks jostle for space on the history-laden south shore known as Rive Gauche and the eponymous Quai Mont-Blanc is one of the most famous addresses in the city of Geneva.

Recently named as the world’s most popular luxury hotel brand by London-based consultancy, Luxury Branding, The Ritz-Carlton currently offers a collection of ten luxury hotels throughout Europe including The Ritz-Carton, Abama, The Ritz-Carlton, Almaty, The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin, The Ritz-Carlton, Herzliya, The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul, The Ritz-Carlton, Moscow, The Ritz-Carlton, Vienna, The Ritz-Carlton, Wolfsburg, Hotel Arts, Barcelona and Penha Longa Resort & Spa in Portugal.

Marriott Europe: You Eat, We Give

You Eat, We GiveDine at a Marriott International Hotel in September and Help Tackle Youth Unemployment

Marriott Europe aims to create 20,000 career opportunities for young people by 2020

Donations to charitable partners reaching nearly €1.5 million since 2012

London - 7 September 2015 Throughout the month of September, participating Marriott International Hotels in Europe will donate £1 or €1 for every lunch and dinner served as part of a Europe-wide ‘You Eat, We Give’ campaign established by Marriott to raise funds to help tackle youth unemployment.

The promotion is part of Marriott’s Europe-wide “World of Opportunity” initiative, which helps young people from disadvantaged backgrounds reach their full potential by providing employment skills and vocational opportunities.   In the UK, Marriott’s funding will enable youth charity The Prince’s Trust to run employability courses for vulnerable young people and in Europe the funds will provide vocational training and scholarships through SOS Children’s Villages’ Youth Programme.

Over the past four years, Marriott in Europe has raised nearly €1.5 million cash and in-kind donations for its charitable partners and offered training and development opportunities to 650 disadvantaged youths, with some securing jobs in culinary fields.

“This fundraising campaign is now in its fourth year and it continues to be a rewarding project for our hotels and also our charitable partners.  ‘You Eat, We Give’ is a way for us to show our commitment to helping young people in Europe find meaningful employment. Giving back to our community is at the heart of the Marriott culture and the way we do business. We look forward to welcoming guests into our hotels for a great meal while showing support to the young people in our communities,” said Reiner Sachau, chief operations officer for Marriott International in Europe.

Marriott's long-term commitment to responsible business practices includes support that ‘gives back’ to local communities.  The company supports local and global charities through financial contributions, in-kind donation of products and services and the volunteer services of our associates around the world.  In addition to youth employability, Marriott’s social responsibility strategy encompasses sustainability, hunger relief, affordable housing, children’s well-being, education in the hospitality industry and empowerment of women, people with disabilities and other underrepresented groups.  In Europe last year, Marriott’s charitable contributions totalled more than €2.4 million in cash and in-kind donations and more than 40,000 hours of volunteer time.

Visit Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) for company information. For more information or reservations, please visit our web site at www.marriott.com, and for the latest company news, visit www.marriottnewscenter.com.

It supports 13 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed and those struggling at school and at risk of exclusion. Many of the young people helped by The Prince’s Trust are in or leaving care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health problems, or they have been in trouble with the law. The Trust’s programmes give vulnerable young people the practical and financial support needed to stabilise their lives, helping develop self-esteem and skills for work. Three in four young people supported by The Prince’s Trust move into work, education or training. The Prince of Wales’s charity has helped 750,000 young people since 1976 and supports over 100 more each day. Further information about The Prince’s Trust is available at princes-trust.org.uk or on 0800 842 842.

About SOS Children's Villages
SOS Children's Villages is an international, non-governmental organisation that provides services in the areas of care, education and health for children who have already lost or who are at risk of losing parental care. The organisation was founded in 1949 and today runs more than 2,300 programmes reaching more than a million children and adults in 134 countries and territories. Its work is guided by the spirit of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

SOS Children's Villages adheres to the principle that every child grows best in a family environment, with loving parents or care-givers, living together with their siblings, in a place they can call home. SOS Children's Villages works with communities, local partners and authorities to support disadvantaged families, thus preventing family breakdown.

When necessary and when it is deemed to be in the child's best interests, there is the option for children to grow up in a foster family or in an SOS Children's Villages family, where children are supported, protected and cared for until they reach adulthood.

SOS Children's Villages also aims to influence decision-makers to make changes in policies and practices in order to promote the well-being of children, especially of those without parental care.

Autograph Collection Welcomes Swiss Boutique Design Hotel, The Hotel, To Its Exclusive Portfolio of Independent Properties

The Hotel, An Autograph CollectionDiscerning collection of independent hotels expands to include its second design property in Switzerland, located in the heart of Lucerne

18 June 2015: Autograph Collection Hotels, Marriott International’s exclusive portfolio of hotels recognised for celebrating individuality, is set to welcome a luxurious new boutique property to its collection on 8 July 2015. Located in a beautiful corner building established in 1907, The Hotel, which opened in 2000, is an urban design hotel with exceptional park views set in the heart of Lucerne.

Owner Urs Karli - a leading hotelier renowned for his innovative gastronomy concepts - is behind the vision of The Hotel, and worked with award-winning French architect Jean Nouvel to transform the building into a unique space for a modern hotel. Intimate and unpretentiously hip, The Hotel sits in a buzzing area, just a stone’s throw from the shores of Lake Lucerne.

Spread across seven floors, the hotel incorporates 30 studios and suites, each providing guests with an unforgettable experience, as a play of light and color produces individual effects in each room - all of which are different. The four penthouse suites all feature roof terraces, whilst the 10 garden and park loft suites come complete with patios. All rooms are fully air conditioned and equipped with modern amenities including Wi-Fi, minibar and Nespresso machine.

Completely conceived and designed by Nouvel, the interiors are an architectural marvel and bear Nouvel’s classic hallmark – the interplay of wood and steel. All of The Hotel’s vertical panels are made from wood, whilst the horizontal panels are made from stainless steel. The purposefully understated corridor leads guests into the rooms, each with large windows that open up breath-taking views of the city and the park adjacent to the hotel. Each room is unique, with different ceiling or wall projections depicting 30 film scenes from Nouvel’s own personal background, creating a cinematic experience for guests.

With the lobby as the focal meeting point, Urs Karli has created a cosmopolitan area for lounging and dining. Bam Bou is Lucerne’s most stylish restaurant and displays unique design details, offering simplicity, comfort and innovation. The menu fuses Asian with French cuisine, drawing upon French tradition and techniques, and combining them with Asian spices. The Lounge Bar provides a further space within which guests can relax, offering a diverse range of cocktails and live DJ at weekends. The Lounge Bar is known for being one of Lucerne’s coolest nightlife spots.

John Licence, brand leader for Autograph Collection Hotels in Europe, commented: “We are delighted to welcome our second design hotel from Switzerland into the Collection. The Hotel was the first boutique design hotel to enter this market, and is known for being part hotel, part contemporary art installation. It’s this unique attribute that makes it perfect for joining Autograph Collection Hotels.”

He continued, “The portfolio is growing rapidly within Europe, and we have no doubt that guests of The Hotel in Lucerne will have an unforgettable experience, as they do at all of our Autograph Collection properties.”

Autograph Collection Hotels offers an evolving group of passionately independent hotel experiences ranging from a 15-room boutique hunting lodge in the mountains of Colorado to a 19th century neoclassical palace in the majestic city of Prague. Exactly like nothing else, each hotel is thoughtfully chosen for its quality, originality, bold character and capacity to offer today’s modern traveler a range of unique experiences suited to their individual sense of style and adventure.
