Marriott Hotel & Resorts - Rugby Football UnionMarriott Hotels & Resorts and the Rugby Football Union (RFU) yesterday marked the official tournament launch of this year’s Marriott London Sevens – the final leg of the 2011/2012 HSBC Sevens World Series – with an inaugural turn of the wheel on the EDF Energy London Eye, followed by a press conference and brunch at the neighboring London Marriott Hotel County Hall.

With attendance from RFU Professional Rugby Director and ex-England player Rob Andrew; England Sevens Head Coach Ben Ryan; the coaches and captains from the 16 Sevens World Series countries; and the England Sevens Women’s Coach and Captain, the celebrations marked the new strategic partnership between Marriott Hotels & Resorts and the RFU. The alliance sees Marriott Hotels & Resorts become the new title sponsor of the Marriott London Sevens and an Official Partner of England Rugby for the next four years.

Christie’s To Host Exclusive Art Exhibition at JW Marriott In Celebration of Cannes Film Festival

Rare works by the world’s most famous artists including Picasso, Warhol, Kandinsky, and Basquiat to be showcased at the JW Marriott Hotel Cannes.

The exhibit will feature important works of Impressionist and Modern Art, as well as Post-War and Contemporary Art. Taking place during the  glamorous week of the Cannes Film Festival, the prestigious exhibition will be on display from 17-21 May at the JW Marriott Cannes in advance of Christie’s major London auctions in June.

The Madoura CollectionAs part of a global partnership between the JW Marriott brand and Christie’s to provide exclusive exhibitions and previews of major auctions, the JW Marriott Cannes will be showcasing a number of rare works of art, including Wassily Kandinsky’s Diagonale, Andy Warhol’s Queen Elizabeth II, and Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Untitled (Skull B); illustrated above). Also on display will be a selection of lots from The Madoura Collection of Picasso Ceramics; an impeccable and unrivalled collection of 550 Picasso ceramics offered for sale directly from the pottery in Vallauris in the South of France, where Picasso made them. The auction will take place on 25 and 26 June at the Christie’s South Kensington saleroom in London.

The exhibition will be showcased in a setting befitting the glamour and allure of Cannes Film Festival; the stunning newly renovated lobby of the JW Marriott Cannes. Timeless and elegant, the new design evokes the romance of Cannes, and provides the perfect back-drop for this special exhibition.

The exhibition will be open to the public daily from the 17th to the 21st May between 10am and 6pm; the perfect interlude to the action unfolding in Cannes.

Two New Courtyard by Marriott Hotels Open in France

Courtyard MontpellierBrand Continues European Expansion with Openings in Montpellier and Boulogne.

London – Marriott International has opened two new Courtyard by Marriott hotels in France, the Courtyard Montpellier and Courtyard Paris Boulogne.

The 123-room Courtyard Montpellier is designed by star architect Jean Nouvel, and is located next to the City Hall and close range of shops and restaurants. Montpellier’s historical centre and local attractions such as the Fabre museum and Convention Centre are just a short tram-ride away. The hotel offers a Mediterranean experience at the Oleo Pazzo Restaurant with views over the Lez River, while the Design Bar in the heart of the lobby area offers a relaxed environment in which to enjoy drinks and snacks throughout the day.  Guests can also take advantage of the heated outdoor pool, running track, and exercise room.  Business needs are well catered for with an on-site business centre and five conference rooms accommodating up to 180 people.

Marriott Hotels & Resorts Announces First Hotel In Krasnoyarsk, Russia

MH&R Krasnoyarsk Russia216-Room Hotel Scheduled to Open in 2014 in the Siberian Gateway City.

London – Marriott International (NYSE: MAR) today announced a new addition to its global Marriott Hotels & Resorts portfolio, the 216-room Krasnoyarsk Marriott Hotel in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. The hotel, which will be operated under a management agreement with OAO Krepost Hotel, is scheduled to open in late 2014.

The 20-story Krasnoyarsk Marriott Hotel will be located just two miles northeast of the historic city center with sweeping views over the Yenisei River, which divides the city.  Krasnoyarsk, a city home to roughly 1 million people, is the administrative capital of the expansive Krasnoyarsk Krai region, which represents 13% of the country’s territory.  The city is strategically placed at an important junction of the Trans-Siberian Railway. The Krasnoyarsk Marriott Hotel will be Marriott’s second hotel in Siberia, joining the recently opened Courtyard by Marriott Irkutsk.

Ground-Breaking Event For the Courtyard by Marriott Aberdeen

Ground-breaking Courtyard by Marriott AberdeenOpening in Spring 2013. 

Aberdeen - Today Marriott International hosted a ground-breaking ceremony for the new 194-room Courtyard by Marriott Aberdeen hotel, opening next to Aberdeen International Airport in Spring 2013.

The ground-breaking was attended by Jean-Paul Nel, Area Vice President for UK North at Marriott International; Chris McGinnis, General Manager of the Aberdeen Marriott Hotel, Mike Johnston from local company Faithful+Gould, who will be project managing the build, and Aberdeen’s Lord Provost (Lord Mayor) Peter Stephen. This will be the first Courtyard by Marriott hotel to be built to the new European design, which was unveiled in London in November 2011.

Marriott conducted extensive customer research and market analysis in order to create the new Courtyard concept designed to appeal to the European traveller, as part of its plans to significantly grow the brand across Europe. The second hotel to debut the new design will be the 230-room Courtyard by Marriott Cologne, set to open in late 2013.

Marriott Hotels & Resorts Scores New Strategic Partnership with the Rugby Football Union

London – Marriott Hotels & Resorts today announced a new strategic partnership to expand and extend its existing relationship with the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for the next four years. The alliance includes new title sponsorship of the Marriott London Sevens and Official Partner of England Rugby, making Marriott Hotels & Resorts a major supporter of the RFU. The agreement also builds on the brand’s existing presence at Twickenham Stadium, with the London Marriott Hotel Twickenham. 

Marriott Hotels & Resorts will be the title partner of the Marriott London Sevens, held at Twickenham on the weekend of the 12th and 13th May 2012. Last year’s hugely successful event saw over 100,000 fans pass through the gates over the two days and 2012 promises to be even bigger and better, with London playing host to the final leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series.

Marking HSBC’s second season as title sponsor, the 2011/12 HSBC Sevens World Series features nine tournaments in five continents, including a new event in Tokyo, Japan, and will again feature both established rugby nations (12 core teams) and emerging rugby-playing countries. The inaugural 2010/11 Series attracted over 500,000 spectators, while television coverage reached 332 million homes.  The Marriott London Sevens hosts the final tournament of the 2011/12 HSBC Sevens World Series.

Marriott Hotels No.1 In The UK Hotel Sector In The Sunday Times “Top 25 Best Big Companies To Work For” List

London – For the fifth year running Marriott Hotels in the United Kingdom has been recognised in the prestigious Sunday Times 25 Best Big Companies to Work For list, announced on Sunday 4th March 2012.  Achieving number 1 for the hotel and leisure sector and 12th place out of 25 overall, Marriott Hotels UK has also been awarded ‘two star status’ under the Best Companies Accreditation Standard 2012.
