Marriott Hotels Puts the World in Your Hands – Expands Mobile Check-in and Checkout for Marriott Rewards Members to Nearly 500 Hotels

CheckIn_CHFor today’s global traveler, their smartphone is what links them to their world. To put even more power in the hands of travelers, Marriott Hotels, the flagship brand of Marriott International (NASDAQ:MAR) has expanded mobile check-in and checkout globally for Marriott Rewards members to nearly 500 hotels. This means Marriott Rewards guests from London to Dubai to Shanghai to Mexico City to New York can simply check-in and checkout using the wildly popular Marriott Mobile app on their smartphone. First introduced last year at its hotels in the United States and Canada, Marriott Hotels mobile check-in and checkout is now available in every continent where its nearly 500 properties are located.*

With the Marriott Mobile app, check-in and checkout is simple to use. Marriott Rewards members receive a push notification on their Apple iPhones or Android devices after 4 pm on the day before their arrival alerting them they can check-in. Then they receive an automatic notification when their room is ready. Because payment information is stored within members profiles, guests simply walk up to the expedited mobile check-in desk where their pre-programmed key card will be waiting for them.

CheckOut_ESAt the end of their stays, guests receive a push notification alerting them mobile checkout is available. Upon completion, guests will then be prompted to provide an email address where their bill will be sent, allowing them to bypass the front desk.

“When we first began testing mobility, we went straight to the experts, our guests, who told us they wanted the power to check-in and checkout on their smartphones,” said Paul Cahill, senior vice president of brand management for Marriott Hotels. “Among Millennials, nine out of ten who tried mobile check-in and checkout for the first time gave it high marks and said they would use it again for their next stay.”

The Marriott Mobile app can be downloaded from the Apple iTunes Store, Google Play and by going to:  http://www.marriott.com/marriott/mobile-apps.mi. These sites also enable easy enrollment in the Marriott Rewards and travelers can learn more about mobility at Marriott Hotels at http://travel-brilliantly.marriott.com/.

The Marriott Hotels mobile innovation does not stop at check-in and checkout. For a glimpse into the future, 15 mobile “incubator” hotels in the U.S. are among the first in the industry enabling guests to text service requests, such as additional towels and pillows and valet service, and chat with the hotel’s hosts in real time.  Marriott Hotels is on a journey of transformation to make travel brilliant. Other innovations include the fully re-designed Greatroom lobby that features an open and flexible lobby space for guests to use for business, leisure or time to themselves. Stylish, modern, comfortable and welcoming, the Greatroom lobby offers all day menus for light bites and meals and full access to technology from free Wi-Fi to electrical power points. Additionally, as the industry leader in hosting meetings, Marriott Hotels has introduced new concepts for the mobile worker including Meetings Imagined, the Meeting Services App (Red Coat Direct) and Workspace on Demand.

*Regulations in Armenia, France, Italy, Kazakhstan, Portugal, Poland, Russia, Spain and Turkey allow for mobile check-in but require guests to checkout with the front desk. Mobile check-in and checkout is not available in Japan.

Vintage Voyages: JW Marriott and Christie's Celebrate Golden Age of Travel

Vintage PostersJW Marriott and Christie’s present vintage posters celebrating the golden age of travel; Special exhibition 14-25 May at JW Marriott Cannes during International Film Festival

London, April 14, 2014JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts and Christie’s ongoing series of cultural events across the globe is taking to Cannes for the second time in their three-year partnership.  From May 14-15, 2014, a special collection of vintage travel posters evoking the timeless appeal of the glamorous Côte d’Azur will be exhibited at the JW Marriott Cannes.  The exhibition will be open to the public daily between 10am and 6pm throughout the film festival. The art deco style posters were commissioned by the railway companies to promote travelling in style during the golden age of tourism.  With the arrival of the railway in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, artists, writers, and aristocrats flocked to the Côte d’Azur to experience the unique landscape, light, and luxury of the region.

“We are privileged to be able to offer guests and visitors a first glimpse at this impressive collection from such a fitting setting - the striking lobby of our JW Marriott Cannes on the Côte d’Azur,” said Mitzi Gaskins, Vice President & Global Brand Manager for JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts.  “The posters depict the glamour and allure associated with travel past and present, and we hope to be able to enrich our guests own travel experiences through this evocative exhibition.”

“Christie’s is delighted to partner with JW Marriott Hotel Cannes for this unique exhibition celebrating the rich history of tourism in the Côte d'Azur. The grand lobby of the hotel is the perfect setting to showcase the collection, and we hope that guests will enjoy the Art Deco artwork which beautifully captures the golden age of travel,” commented Sophie Churcher, Specialist, Vintage Posters, Christie’s South Kensington.

Highlights of the exhibition include posters by A.M. Cassandre and Roger Broders.  The entire collection of vintage posters and luggage entitled The Art of Travel will be on sale at Christie’s in South Kensington on 18 June 2014.

JW Marriott and Christie’s first teamed up in Cannes in 2012 to showcase a series of artistic masterpieces including Wassily Kandinsky’s Diagonale and Andy Warhol’s Queen Elizabeth II.  Through public exhibitions and previews of major auctions at select JW Marriott properties worldwide, Christie’s and JW Marriott are offering travellers a glimpse into the worlds of art, auction and beyond.

“We are excitedby these record results and the momentum moving into 2014,” commented Amy McPherson, President and Managing Director, Marriott International, Europe.  “The next two years are particularly exciting for Europe as we already have plans to open 38hotels and launch ground-breaking experiences that will surprise and delight our customers and guests. Marriott’s new affordable lifestyle brand, Moxy (launched at ITB Berlin in 2013) is scheduled to open its first hotel in Milan in September, Moxy Milan Malpensa.  We are also on track to open an extraordinaryJW Marriott Resort & Spa in Venice on its own island in February 2015, along with new Marriott hotels in Moscow and Istanbul.  Renovations at Paris Marriott Rive Gauche Hotel and London Marriott Hotel Kensington will showcase our new and innovative future of meetings concept.”

UK & Ireland – Lifestyle Growth

In 2013, London was a strategic focus for Marriott’s lifestyle brands with three major iconic hotel launches throughout the year.  The Autograph Collection, a collection of unique independent hotels, added two London hotels to its portfolio, St Ermins Hotel and Threadneedles, which were followed closely by the much acclaimed London EDITION.  These hotels, appealing to both leisure and business guests, joined St Pancras Renaissance Hotel adding to the strong network of lifestyle hotels across the city.  Autograph Collection also opened The Glasshouse in Edinburgh, an extraordinary hotel with an historical church façade against a modern glass construction and also added Powerscourt in Ireland, a palatial hotel in the grounds of a 12th century estate.  In addition, the UK is expected to be one of the key markets for Moxy over the next few years.  Other big news for the UK in 2013 included the launch of Courtyard by Marriott Aberdeen Airport Hotel.  It is the first Courtyard hotel to feature the new European design which aims to promote productivity, with rooms equipped with ample work space, task lighting and multiple power outlets along with free Wi-Fi throughout.

Eastern Europe – Fastest Growing Market

In 2013, Eastern Europe was the fastest growing market for Marriott in Europe and now has 16 hotels scheduled to open by the end of 2015.  Russia and Turkey’s growing economies are stimulating significant investor interest and expansion in Russia is robust with six hotels slated to open in the next two years, including Moscow Marriott Hotel Novy Arbat in May and Novosibirsk Marriott Hotel in June 2014.  In Turkey, two hotels have opened over the last couple of years, the Renaissance Istanbul Bosphorus Hotel in 2012 and the Renaissance Izmir Hotel in 2013.  The Istanbul Marriott Hotel Sisli, opening in March 2014, will be a flagship Marriott hotel in the central business district of the city.

Western Europe – Doubling Presence

Over the last few years, Marriott has seen accelerated growth in Western Europe especially in France and Italy.

In France, Marriott has nearly doubled its presence since 2010 with a total of 21 hotels and three more are due to open by 2015.  Marriott has almost tripled its presence in Italy since 2010, growing to 23 hotels by the end of 2013 and will be the location for two major new flagship hotels – JW Marriott Resort & Spa, Venice scheduled for February 2015 and Moxy Milan Malpensa planned for September 2014.

Marriott’s lifestyle brands are also doing well in Western Europe.  The Autograph Collection expects to launch two hotels in Spain, Fontecruz Sevilla in Summer 2014 and Fontecruz Toledo in Autumn 2014.  AC Hotels by Marriott, Marriott’s stylish and contemporary urban hotel brand, has been embraced by investors following the successful launch of two AC Hotels in Antibes and Nice. The new AC Hotel Paris Porte Maillot should open in June 2014 with a further two in the pipeline.  Increased interest in Marriott’s lifestyle brand Renaissance Hotels, has resulted in two new hotels opening in quick succession, Renaissance Aix en Provence, France in January 2014 and now the Renaissance Paris Hippodrome de St Cloud Hotel, France slated for June 2014.

Central Europe – Growth in Germany

As the fourth largest source market for Marriott International globally, Germany is one of Marriott’s strongest countries in Europe.  It is the location for many of Marriott International’s key innovations including the launch of Marriott Hotels’ future of meetings concept.  Marriott Munich was one of the first hotels to introduce the next generation meeting spaces in October 2013, showcasing stylish design, natural light, flexible seating and wireless technology.  Germany is also the location for several high profile hotel launches in the next few years, including Courtyard by Marriott Cologne at the end of March 2014 and four Moxy hotels planned for the next two years, Moxy Munich and Moxy Berlin Ostbahnhof in spring 2015, Frankfurt Gateway Gardens in summer 2015 and Moxy Berlin Airport in autumn 2015.   Another 13 Moxy hotels are expected to be signed in Europe by the end of 2014.

Marriott Hotels Again Invites Travel Influencers and Enthusiasts to Submit Bold Ideas on TravelBrilliantly.com That Could Change the Future of Travel

Travel Brilliantly Ideas PageFollowing up on the successful launch of its website TravelBrilliantly.com, Marriott Hotels, the flagship brand of Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAR), today launched a new round of co-creation for 2014 in the United States and – for the first time – the United Kingdom. Ideas from the public submitted to TravelBrilliantly.com through the end of April will be entered into a co-creation contest.* The grand-prize winner will travel to the company’s Bethesda, MD headquarters to work alongside Marriott experts on forward-thinking projects in its innovation lab, The Underground.

Geared towards modern travelers who seamlessly blend work and play, TravelBrilliantly.com has been soliciting travel ideas for design, culinary, wellness and technology since it launched with the brand’s Travel Brilliantly marketing campaign in June 2013. Visitors to the site can also watch videos of innovations Marriott Hotels is working on now for the future of travel.

”With Travel Brilliantly, Marriott Hotels is rethinking the travel experience beyond the four walls of the hotel,“ said Mara Hannula, vice president of Marketing, Marriott-endorsed Brands. “As we transform the iconic Marriott Hotels brand, we are continuing to engage our guests, giving them a voice in co-creating the future of travel with us.“

A panel of four judges -- Shira Lazar, Host/Founder of What's Trending, Faris Yakob, Founder, Genius Steals LLC, Chris Baer, Director of Innovation at Marriott, and Anjana Kallarackal, grand prize winner from TravelBrilliantly.com’s first co-creation contest -- will choose the next grand-prize winner.  In addition, three first prize winners will receive prize packages, including items from Herschel Supply Co. and Brookstone** that will enable brilliant travel.

From more than 700 submissions to TravelBrilliantly.com in last year’s co-creation contest, Kallarackal’s concept, a healthy and nutritious vending machine, rose to the top. Kallarackal traveled to the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square to work with Marriott Hotels’ experts and local innovative partners, Simon Prockter, the Founder/CEO of Housebites, Shaun Clarkson, interior designer and owner of Pitfield Café, and Laurence Holloway, recipient of the 2013 British Young Business Award for his company, Lovestruck, to further develop her winning idea. A video of Kallarackal’s trip can be viewed on TravelBrilliantly.com. Once fully developed, her inspirational idea will come to life at a Marriott Hotels’ property later this year.

As a part of Marriott Hotel's transformation for the next generation of travelers, the iconic brand continues to innovate globally. With the expansion of mobile check-in feature globally on the Marriott Mobile app, guests can check-in to 350 Marriott Hotels’ properties in 19 countries, using their smartphones. By the end of 2015, Marriott Hotels expects to fully introduce its re-designed Greatroom Lobby, to all hotels globally. The Greatroom Lobby is designed for the next generation traveler who blends work and play, demands style and substance, and requires technology. Additionally, as the industry leader in hosting meetings, Marriott Hotels recently introduced new concepts for the mobile worker including Meetings Imagined, the Meeting Services App (Red Coat Direct) and Workspace on Demand.
