Marriott Aims To Double Footprint In The Caribbean And Latin America By 2017

Cartagena MarriottMore than 70 additional hotels and 14,000 new jobs planned in the next five years.

Heralding a "golden age of travel," Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) plans to double the number of hotels in the Caribbean and Latin America within the next five years. Arne Sorenson, the new CEO of Marriott International, will make the announcement today at the Americas CEO Summit in Cartagena, Colombia, adding that the number of jobs at Marriott hotels in the region is expected to increase from 13,000 to 27,000 by the end of 2017.

The company also said it expects to double its presence in Colombia with the additions of Marriott hotels in both Cartagena and Cali.

This year’s hotel openings in the region showcase the company's broad portfolio of top brands, including the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the Americas at Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico to the JW Marriott in Cusco, Peru and the Courtyard by Marriott at Mexico City Airport.
Currently, Marriott has 35 hotels signed and under development in the Caribbean and Latin America.  These include The Ritz-Carlton, Aruba, The Ritz-Carlton, Panama City (Panama), JW Marriott Cusco (Peru), Port-au-Prince Marriott Hotel (Haiti) and the Renaissance Santiago (Chile).  By 2017, Marriott envisions its portfolio in the region rising to over 140 hotels and 30,000 rooms either opened or in the development pipeline.

Today, Marriott International is represented with 69 hotels in 25 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America. Nine of Marriott’s 18 brands are currently represented in the region:  The Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott (luxury); Marriott Hotels & Resorts (upscale); Renaissance Hotels and Autograph Collection (lifestyle); Courtyard by Marriott (upper moderate);  Marriott Executive Apartments and Residence Inn by Marriott (extended stay); and Fairfield by Marriott (moderate).

“Latin America is booming, in terms of economic growth and political and institutional stability, which is creating a promising business climate,” said Mr. Sorenson, whose title is president and CEO. “The rising middle class throughout the region is eager to travel to new places and do business on the road. Worldwide, we're seeing a golden age of travel, and Latin America is at the forefront.  This, when combined with the strong performance and preference of our brands in the gateway markets, provides tremendous opportunity for Marriott's world class brands and service."

“This is an exciting time for hotel development in Latin America; the growing regional demand and broadening market, combined with the lack of consistent domestic hotel product and service, represents a large opportunity to develop upscale branded hotels as well as multi-unit moderate tier development platforms with local partners in the region,” said Laurent De Kousemaeker, chief development officer, Caribbean and Latin American Region, for Marriott International.

Note: The statements about the numbers of new hotels and rooms we expect to add by 2017 are “forward looking statements" within the meaning of federal securities laws, not historical facts, and are subject to a number of risks and uncertainties, including the continuation and pace of the economic recovery; supply and demand changes for hotel rooms; competitive conditions in the lodging industry; relationships with clients and property owners; the availability of capital to finance hotel growth and refurbishment; and other risk factors identified in our most recent annual report on Form 10-K; any of which could cause actual results to differ materially from those expressed in or implied by our statement. These statements are made as of the date of this press release, and we undertake no obligation to publicly update or revise any forward-looking statement, whether as a result of new information, future events or otherwise.

Catholic Charities Fort Worth Teams up with Local Marriott Select Service and Extended Stay Hotels to Give Veterans a Place They Can Really Call Home

Ffi&s_oc_2clRi_oc_3clShs_oc_4clFort Worth, TX - Catholic Charities Fort Worth (CCFW) is providing homeless and at-risk veterans a comfortable place to call home, thanks to the hundreds of rooms of furniture donated by local hotels in Fort Worth. Three Marriott branded hotels, namely Fairfield Inn & Suites at University Dr Fort Worth, Residence Inn Las Colinas and Spring Hill Suites Fort Worth University allowed CCFW to move more than 250 rooms of furniture, including beds, to the Creating Hope Donation Center. CCFW developed a relationship with the Marriott branded hotels last year when Director of In-Kind Donations, Steve DeLeon, sought out hotel managers looking to renovate hotel rooms through the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce.

Veteran Services provides housing to low-income, homeless, or at-risk veterans and their families. “Donated items are very important to the Veterans Services program,” said Denise Brimmer-Collins, Program Manager of Veteran Services. “The items our clients receive provide a sense of hope and improve the quality of life to those we encounter.”  One of the first veterans moved into housing and provided with a donated bed was a young woman and her children.

CCFW’s partnership with Marriott began when the Fairfield Inn on University Drive donated all of their used television sets. Later, DeLeon worked with the Residence Inn at Las Colinas as they prepared to undertake a complete remodel. By marketing volunteers as the moving team, DeLeon convinced the hotels to choose CCFW over liquidators, resulting in a relationship that’s been beneficial for both parties. This combined effort resulted in 264 rooms of furniture to be donated to resettled refugees, housing for the homeless and, most recently, beds for low-income veterans.

Local businesses interested in forming a partnership with CCFW can contact Steve DeLeon at 817-413-3926.

Fairfield Inn & Suites Associates Rally to Build More Than 100 Homes for Those in Need

FairField Inn & Suites Rally to Serve1,500 Associates Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.

From hotel to home, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott is extending the power of hospitality into the local community, one new home at a time. This fall, more than 1,500 Fairfield Inn & Suites associates from across the U.S. and in Canada went out into their local communities, rolled up their sleeves, and helped build more than 100 homes for those in need. As part of the brand’s longstanding commitment to Habitat for Humanity International, Fairfield Inn & Suites associates nationwide joined together for the brand’s second annual Rally to Serve month-long event, helping to build more than 100 homes in 44 states and Canada.

Fairfield Inn & Suites associates from 150 hotels across the country rallied together in support of Habitat for Humanity. Hotels participated by building homes, donating products and volunteering countless hours at local Habitat ReStores. Additionally, hotels volunteered by helping at the Habitat for Humanity pumpkin patch, helping to open several new Habitat ReStores across the US, participating in a Habitat 3k fun run and serving up the Fairfield breakfast on home builds.

“We were overwhelmed by our associates’ passion for the Rally to Serve - Hospitality at Home® program and the remarkable level of participation this fall,” said Shruti Buckley, vice president, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott. “With the help of individual properties and associates like these, we are able to extend the hospitality and service we’re known for into our local communities to provide these families with a brighter future.”

The Fairfield Inn & Suites brand supports the Habitat for Humanity organization through Hospitality at Home, a program combining cash, in-kind and volunteerism to benefit local affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International.  Through home sponsorships, volunteer hours at local Habitat ReStores, product donations from renovations, or through financial donations, the national Hospitality at Home program engages Fairfield Inn & Suites associates, owners, franchisees, and customers to help Habitat for Humanity continue its work in providing decent, affordable housing for families in need.

“We have a long history of giving back to the communities where we work and live. Since we began our relationship with Habitat in 1995 with the grand opening of our 200th Fairfield Inn hotel, we have grown to more than 670 hotels and contributed numerous volunteer hours and financial support towards the completion of more than 250 homes,” said Bruce Reed, Account Executive, Select Service and Extended Stay Hotels, Marriott International, Inc.  “With the Hospitality at Home program, we not only have the chance to help make various families’ dreams of home ownership come true, but we are also able to help them provide a better and safer environment for their children.”

In addition to home builds, participating Fairfield Inn & Suites hotels donate items from hotel renovations to Habitat ReStores, retail stores that sell quality used and surplus building materials and furnishings to raise money for local Habitat builds. The Hospitality at Home program aligns with Marriott International’s focus on shelter and food as part of its five global social issues represented by the letters in “SERVE” – Shelter and Food, Environment, Readiness for Hotel Careers, Vitality of Children, and Embracing Global Diversity and Inclusion.

Fairfield Inn & Suites – with The Princeton Review – Offer Parents Support as They Begin Visiting College Campuses with their Children

Results of college-related travel survey released; Check in to Fairfield Inn & Suites, Check out College Campuses program launched.

FIS College Program Logo Choosing the right college can be a challenging and stressful time, especially as parents visit multiple campuses from coast to coast with their children. But it can also be a wonderful time, a chance for parents to bond with their grown-up children and travel as a family. Fairfield Inn & Suites® by Marriott (www.fairfieldinn.com) is now reaching out to parents of high school juniors and seniors with the Check in to Fairfield Inn & Suites, Check out College Campuses program (www.FairfieldCollegeVisits.com) complete with a travel package, valuable free advice from The Princeton Review and a $10,000 sweepstakes giveaway.

This fall, 19.7 million students are projected to enroll in the nation’s colleges and universities (U.S. National Center for Education Statistics).  Fairfield Inn & Suites conducted an online survey that revealed most parents planning college visits with their children – 21 percent of respondents – said they expect to make three to four trips to campuses. Meanwhile, 10 percent of respondents expect to make at least seven trips to visit campuses. Why are parents making these trips with their children? Most of the parents – 54 percent – responded to make sure their children chose the right school with 39 percent responding the opportunity to bond with their children before they leave home.

Most parents responded they did not have issues with their children choosing a college far from home. However, among those parents with distance issues, the largest number of respondents -- 23 percent – cited 500 miles or further as too far from home. Once the last child leaves home for college, the greatest number of newly minted empty nesters – 35 percent -- said you are most looking forward to a little quiet time together at home – and they deserve it. The survey of 9,901 adult parents of prospective, current, and recent college students was conducted in July by McPheters & Company for Fairfield Inn & Suites.

“Fairfield Inn & Suites has more than 670 hotels in North America and many near college campuses, so our hotels have been welcoming parents and their children as they journey through the college selection process for some time,” said Shruti Gandhi Buckley, global vice president, Fairfield Inn & Suites. “With most parents expecting to make up an average of four college campus visits with their children, according to our online survey, there’s great opportunity to offer them support and value with our Check in to Fairfield Inn & Suites, Check out College Campuses program, in addition to our free breakfast and free Internet at our hotels.”

In collaboration with The Princeton Review, Fairfield Inn & Suites has launched the Check in to Fairfield Inn & Suites, Check out College Campuses program (www.FairfieldCollegeVisits.com).  The Princeton Review is a pioneer and leader in helping students achieve their higher education goals through college and graduate school test preparation and private tutoring.
