Moxy Hotels Continues Its Rebellion Against Traditional Art in its #BlankCanvas Campaign in Search and Support of International, Emerging Artists

Glasses Blank Canvas shot w LogoBethesda, Md., February 22, 2016 – Moxy Hotels, Marriott International’s edgy new lifestyle brand, continues to rebel against the traditional concept of hotel art with its #BlankCanvas campaign, in search and in support of emerging artists.. #BlankCanvas invites innovative painters, photographers, film-makers, sculptors, illustrators and graffiti artists to submit unique works of art for the chance to be one of the featured artists at new Moxy Hotels. Selected works will become the cornerstone of a permanent contemporary, emerging art collection at each Moxy Hotel.

Moxy Hotels has partnered with international artistic platform Talenthouse to call on multi-media artists from around the world to submit contemporary works that encapsulate the unexpected, fun, spirited attitude that Moxy Hotels embodies and celebrates.

“#BlankCanvas embodies a fun and innovative business approach to curating art and style-- much like the Moxy brand,” said Vicki Poulos, global brand director, Moxy Hotels. “In addition to creating a platform for emerging artists to explore their creativity and showcase their work, the program aims to reinvent the conventional hotel guest experience and encourage new conversations around arts and culture."

The public campaign which aims to uncover some of the hottest emerging artistic talent, will unveil its next #BlankCanvas selected artist at the debut celebration for Moxy New Orleans in May 2016. Additional #BlankCanvas challenges will launch later this year in order to identify artists who will be featured at the openings of Moxy Tempe, AZ, Moxy Nashville, TN and Moxy Berlin, Germany.  The #BlankCanvas program will continue year round at each hotel in collaboration with local art programs, studios and collectors.

HOW TO SUBMIT:

HOW ARTISTS WILL BE SELECTED:

A panel of judges will review each body of work. One artist will be selected to visit Moxy New Orleans for the hotel’s debut to participate in a live art installation attended by local and international media, art visionaries and cultural catalysts. In addition to receiving a prize of $2,500, the selected work will be showcased in Moxy New Orleans’ Living Room as part of the hotel’s art collection. The selected artist will be announced April 4, 2016 and revealed during the Moxy New Orleans Freak Show, which will take place in May 2016.

The public can vote on www.moxyhotels.com/whats-up for the Popular Choice artist. The designation will go to the individual who receives the most social shares, in addition to a $500 award. Participating artists are encouraged to share their submissions on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest with the hashtags #BlankCanvas and #AtTheMoxy.

Moxy Hotels launched #BlankCanvas in September 2014 at the grand opening of Moxy Milan with Nune D’Amico Kerobyan winning the coveted title of ‘Artist-in-Residence’.

Bethesda, Md., February 17, 2016 – Moxy Hotels, Marriott International’s edgy new lifestyle brand, is shaking up traditional hospitality and making its mark in the U.S. with Moxy New Orleans, LA, and Moxy Tempe, AZ, both set to open in Spring 2016. Moxy Hotels boldly reinvents the select-service hotel experience to fully embrace today’s Next Generation traveler and to show the world what “moxie” really means – fun, spirited and stylish. These two new hotels will offer the style and soul of a boutique hotel that is surprisingly affordable.

“We are excited to debut Moxy Hotels in the U.S., beginning with New Orleans and Tempe, as we believe that the aura of each city completely embodies the essence of Moxy – fun, edgy, and social, all with a youthful spirit,” said Vicki Poulos, global brand director, Moxy Hotels.

Moxy New Orleans, located steps away from the French Quarter in downtown New Orleans, will welcome guests with its style, design and attitude. Developed and owned by Noble Investment Group, the contemporary 108-room hotel is scheduled to be unveiled in April 2016. To help introduce New Orleans to the Moxy way of life, the hotel welcomes locals and travelers to join Moxy’s upcoming buzz worthy get-togethers, which are designed to get the blood pumping. Pre-opening happenings will include an exclusive invite-only sleepover. The opening reveal events will include: a traditional New Orleans Freak Show, a mix-off with dueling DJs, local beer tasting and a Karaoke party.

Moxy Tempe will debut in March in the Phoenix-metro ‘hipsterhood’ known for its crazy college parties, underground art and epic nightlife. Launched by Newport Beach, California-based Twenty Four Seven Hotels, Moxy Tempe will feature 186 industrial chic, yet comfortable, bedrooms and an abundance of free-flowing indoor/outdoor space enabled by modern roll-up garage doors off the lobby. Old school record players, vinyl album sets and acoustic guitars will pump music in Moxy King Studios, and custom Moxy city cruiser bikes will zip guests around town. The hotel’s lively pool scene and state-of-the-art fitness center will ensure guests will want to extend their stay. Moxy Tempe will introduce travelers and locals alike to the Moxy lifestyle with a reveal event in April 2016.

Moxy Milan Celebrates Inspiring Artistic Talent in Hunt to Find Next Best Artist

Moxy Milan - Nune D’Amico Kerobyan's winning artwork Live 'Blank Canvas’ challenge puts three finalists under intense pressure to produce incredible art in only 60 minutes.

November 5, 2014 - Moxy Milan, the new economy design hotel in Milan, Italy, announced Nune D’Amico Kerobyan as the winner of its artist-in-residence competition - Blank Canvas #atthemoxy - which was held at a spectacular opening party that brought together media, hotel guests, art enthusiasts and the Milanese social scene on 30 October. Download images.

In a thrilling climax to the competition, three finalists created an artwork in just 60 minutes, in front of a live audience, using only a black blank canvas and pink, white and black paint pens.  A tattoo artist, Leonardo Giacomo Borges, courtesy of Marriott Rewards, painted semi-permanent tattoos on guests whilst they sipped on Nespresso cocktails including iced raspberry macchiatos and mojito coffee cocktails with Havana Club and a selection of Red Bull drinks, Sugarfree and Red Bull Red Edition.  The electric music set, by Red Bull DJ Stefi Oyadi, kept the party dancing well into the night.

Moxy Milan - artists at work during competitionThe three finalists were selected from 300 submissions to global creative community, Talent House, for the first round of the challenge which required artists to submit artwork with a bold, vibrantly coloured design, capturing the character of Milan and displaying a Moxy attitude: spirited, fun and thoughtful.

Moxy Milan - Laura Hayden MC and Red Bull DJ Stefi Oyadi Ramesh Jackson, Vice President, Franchise Brand Operation, Marriott International and member of the judging panel said: “Watching the artists get to work in such a pressurised environment for the Blank Canvas challenge made for a thrilling evening — and one that immediately set the vibe we are so proud to nourish in the Moxy brand: daring, creative and fun.  Celebrating raw creative design and vibrant urban energy is at the heart of Moxy’s core values and the response from the artist community for Blank Canvas #atthemoxy has been so exciting.  This is just the start of a long creative partnership as we continue to support artistic talent at our hotels”

The three finalists, Ana Androska, Hector Darcos, and Nune D’Amico Kerobyan, were shortlisted because their work displayed the individuality and artistic energy that Moxy’s expert art judges* were looking for:

Winner Nune D’Amico Kerobyan is a designer and painter from Rome, Italy. Judges admired her painting, Passion, for its decorative richness. This portrait is of a thoroughly modern, 21st-century woman, but Nune’s palette and approach is sensual with a nod to Art Deco style.

Runner upHector Darcos is a graffiti artist from the Canary Islands, who was raised in London and Barcelona. His abstract painting, Urban Flow, impressed the judges for its finely controlled line, and fluid, organic, almost other-worldly atmosphere that simultaneously feels very urban and contemporary.

Runner up Ana Androska is an artist from Skopje, in Macedonia. Her painting, Liberty, immediately caught the judges’ eyes. Liberty is, says Ana, about “celebrating the joy and passion of life — a bottle of wine shared with dear friends, with laughter, music and food”. Moxy’s art judges praised Ana’s charming, whimsical and figurative style.

As the proud winner, Nune was awarded a cash prize and her artwork will be displayed in the hotel’s Living Room.  When receiving her prize from the judging panel, Nune explained “My artwork was inspired by the energy of cities around the world, fast free and always evolving and by the carefree Moxy way of life.  I am so pleased and excited to win this prize and to be a part of the Moxy experience”

The Moxy Milan is located within walking distance of Terminal Two at Milan Malpensa Airport. Complimentary 24-hour shuttle service is available from Terminal One.
