Autograph Collection to Add Stunning New Locations in Switzerland & Spain

Marriott International, Inc (NASDAQ:MAR) today announced plans to expand its Autograph Collection portfolio in Europe with exciting new additions in Zurich, Switzerland and Barcelona, Spain. Opening next year, the one-of-a-kind hotels will represent the debut of the exclusive portfolio of independent hotels in each city.

 Kameha Grand Zurich, Autograph CollectionWhen opened in spring 2015, the new 245-room Kameha Grand Zurich will represent the first Autograph Collection hotel to open in Switzerland.  Featuring stunning architecture and world class interior design by acclaimed Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, the hotel will be operated by Kameha Grand Glattpark Betriebsgeselleschaft mbH. The hotel is widely recognized for its eleven “themed” suites exclusively designed for the hotel by Wanders, including a “Poker Face” suite with roulette and poker tables and a “Serenity” suite featuring special lighting and select yoga and wellness accessories.  John Licence added, “With its creative design and playful personality, Kameha Grand Zurich truly captures the spirit of Autograph Collection.”

The hotel boasts three unique options for dining: Restaurant L’Unico featuring fresh homemade pasta and Italian specialties prepared in an open show-kitchen; fine dining Japanese restaurant Yu Nijo; and the Puregold Bar. As a fun twist, the hotel features its own shisha lounge, offering a robust line of full-flavored Arabic shisha and tobacco. The hotel offers a wide selection of meeting and special event space, including eight distinct rooms in various sizes. The highlight of the meeting space is the Kameha Dome, a unique 700 square meter space, perfect for larger gatherings. Widely known for its world-class shopping, dining and entertainment, Zurich has become increasingly well recognized as an international art destination, offering more than 100 art galleries, making the city among the top ten gallery cities in the art trade.  

Also set to open in the spring of 2015, The Cotton House, Barcelona, will be located in an iconic 19th century building in the heart of the city center formerly known as the headquarters of the Association of Cotton Manufacturers.

The 83-room boutique hotel will feature unique public spaces including several unique lounge areas, a rooftop pool and terrace, as well as a lush garden terrace area for dining and drinks. A large number of rooms feature balconies to take in the view and recharge after exploring the city. Interior design for the hotel is being crafted by the renowned Lázaro Rosa Violán studio. The design will be inspired by the decorative arts of the building’s original architecture while ensuring a luxury experience for the guests.

The concept of the Cotton House will be to deliver exquisite guest experiences in a cool colonial style with the spirit of Barcelona in its heart.

Marriott’s CEO Charts Exponential Hotel Growth in Africa 2014-2020, Tripling Jobs

Lodging Leader to Talk About Business and Tourism Opportunities at US-Africa Business Forum

Protea Umhlanga_Ridge_exteriorBETHESDA, MD, USA – August 4, 2014 – Joining U.S. President Barack Obama, 200 corporate CEOs from the U.S. and Africa and over 45 African heads of state at the US-Africa Business Forum tomorrow, Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) President and CEO Arne Sorenson will share the company's plans to reach over 150 hotels across 16 African countries, resulting in more than 25,000 jobs, between 2014-2020.

This growth comes on a base of 14 hotels and 10,000 employees prior to the company’s acquisition of South Africa’s Protea Hotel Group in April. The Protea investment lifted Marriott into position as the largest hotel company in Africa, with the addition of 116 managed and franchised hotels, approximately 10,000 rooms and 15,000 employees across seven countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

Protea interior guest roomIn addition to its recent Protea acquisition, Marriott International has plans to open nearly 40 additional hotels with more than 6,000 rooms, adding more than 10,000 employees, at both its managed and franchised hotels in the following 13 African countries by 2020: Algeria, Benin, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Gabon, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tunisia, and Zambia.

Sorenson discussed Marriott’s commitment to Africa and support of the growing travel industry by easing travel to and within the continent: “It’s a great time to do business in Africa and Marriott is at the table helping to lead the discussion on trade and investment across the continent. African leaders are looking at ways to spur economic growth by lowering barriers, such as onerous visa regimes. Travel is trade and the more Africa embraces Smart Travel policies that encourage the free flow of people, the quicker growth will come,” says Sorenson.

In Rwanda, Marriott has partnered with a vocational school, Akilah Institute for Women, to bring 41 women from the school to work and train in Marriott hotels in Dubai. The women are getting on-the-job skills, leadership training, and will be prepared after 18 months to return, as part of the management team, in 2016 to open the company’s first new-build Sub-Saharan Africa hotel – the Kigali Marriott Hotel.  

“Africa is going through an economic transformation,” says Sorenson. “Coupled with that transformation is a mutual promise for opportunity that Africa holds—for us as a business and for the people who are hired, trained and work in hotels across our portfolio. For them, it is like hitting the lottery and shows what a powerfully good force travel can be in the world.”

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company Unveils Plans to Expand in CIS with the Announcement of a Hotel in Astana, Capital City of Kazakhstan

The Ritz-Carlton AstanaLondon – June 18, 2014 - The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. and Verny Capital, a leading Kazakhstan private investment group, have signed an agreement for the development of The Ritz-Carlton, Astana. The luxury hotel is due to open in 2017 as the portfolio’s second hotel in Kazakhstan, with The Ritz-Carlton, Almaty previously opening its doors in 2013. 

Herve Humler, President and Chief Operations Officer, The Ritz-Carlton, said “We are delighted to work once again with our partners Verny Capital and to bring The Ritz-Carlton renowned levels of hospitality to the capital city of Kazakhstan. The Ritz-Carlton, Astana will be the first international luxury property among hotels in the Kazakh capital, bringing its unique benchmark service culture, with luxurious accommodations and experiences to the city.  Located in the mixed use Talan Towers project, the hotel will occupy 20 floors of the 27 storey development designed by SOM architects from New York.  With 157 lavish guest rooms and suites, the hotel will also offer Ritz-Carlton Club Level accommodation with exclusive access to a Club Lounge. Restaurants and bars at the property will include a Sky Bar with panoramic city views as well as a restaurant, Cigar Bar and private fine dining areas. A Nod to the Past, a Vision for the Future - Marriott Celebrates the Grand Opening of Its 4,000th Hotel - The Marriott Marquis Washington, DC

(NASDAQ: MAR) officially celebrated the highly anticipated grand opening of the company’s 4,000th hotel – the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC.

The day kicked off with the official dedication led by J.W. Marriott, Jr., executive chairman, along with city officials and other dignitaries who helped welcome the 1,175-room hotel to the company and city. The hotel is located not far from where founders J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott opened a nine seat A&W Root Beer stand 87 years ago. In a salute to the company’s origins, the ceremony featured a root beer toast and a performance by the Washington Performing Arts Children of the Gospel Choir.  Members of the Marriott family also surprised Mr. Marriott by unveiling a plaque on the mezzanine level that reads, “Honoring J.W. “Bill” Marriott, Jr. for His Exemplary Leadership and Commitment to ‘Put People First’- Dedicated at the Grand Opening of the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC, June 10, 2014”.
 
“It is fitting that our 4,000th hotel is located here in our nation’s capital, because it is the birthplace of our company and represents the future of the Marriott Hotels brand,” said, J.W. “Bill” Marriott, Jr. “The Marquis will also be an economic boost to the city, creating job and career opportunities for hundreds of District residents and attracting major meetings from around the world.”

Guests sipped different variations of the “DC Mule”, a new take on the classic Moscow Mule cocktail, and voted for their favorite. The winner – The Virgin-gin – will now be served at the hotel bar. Throughout the evening, guests also offered their own inspiration and co-created live with local DC muralist Aniekan Udofia, what it means to “Traveling Brilliantly in Washington, DC”.

DJ StylusThe evening featured a sampling of passed hors d'oeuvres emblematic of DC neighborhoods, including Shaw, Chinatown, Waterfront, Eastern Market, Adam’s Morgan. Guests were treated to a specialty bourbon bar featuring an array of cocktails curated by Jim Beam and inspired by the global locations of the nearly 500 properties in the Marriott Hotels’ brand. DC native DJ Stylus drove the pulse of party, spinning tunes throughout the evening with many a reflection of the city’s vibrant music culture. The event was punctuated with an exclusive and mesmerizing aerial ballet performance by Les Oiseaux Du Paradis.

The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi, fringed by lush tropical rainforests, enjoys its own private cove and beach overlooking the crystal clear waters of the Andaman Sea on the island’s south west corner. Renaissance Denver Downtown City Center (U.S.)Renaissance Denver Downtown City Center (U.S.):  Opened in May, the 230-room hotel provides a uniquely modern experience in one of the city’s most historic buildings.  Taking over the Colorado National Bank building, one of Denver’s most iconic structures and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, celebrated Allen Tupper True murals add to the hotel’s stunning décor along with specially-curated and locally inspired original artwork. Range, an original concept restaurant and bar, will feature locally-purveyed cuisine inspired by the Rocky Mountain West. This urban landmark hotel will celebrate its official grand opening on June 26th as part of Renaissance Hotels Day of Discovery with a special appearance by DJ Cassidy.

Renaissance Santiago HotelRenaissance Santiago Hotel (Chile):  Welcoming guests since early April, the new Renaissance Hotel Santiago marks the brand’s third hotel to open in South America. The new property establishes a bold presence in the upscale neighborhood of Vitacura, surrounded by stylish boutiques and some of Santiago's finest restaurants. The interior design is centered by an open plan building filled with a series of spaces where the guests are inspired to discover around every corner. Renowned chef Mariano Cid de la Paz serves as executive chef of the hotel’s signature restaurant, Catae.
