A Noble Lineage
The distinguished history of the St. Regis brand dates back to the iconic St. Regis New York, the original Beaux Arts classic landmark commissioned by Colonel John Jacob Astor IV in 1904. Astor, a wealthy inventor and writer, envisioned a hotel where gentlemen and their families could enjoy the comforts of a private home. The result was a spectacular 18-floor hotel, rich with elaborate architecture, delicate trompe l’oeil paintings and lavishly decorated furnishings. For the comfort of his guests, Astor introduced “modern” conveniences such as a central heating and air-cooling system as well as a special design “for the disposition of dust and refuse” – one of the first central vacuum systems. Today, The St. Regis New York is joined by 36 other distinguished St. Regis hotels and resorts around the world, each offering the brand’s signature bespoke service and unparalleled travel experience. By the end of 2016, St. Regis will have opened in 40 destinations around the world.
Most recently, St. Regis made its long-awaited debut in Moscow, Istanbul, Mumbai, Dubai and Macao. 2016 is a landmark year for the St. Regis brand with five hotel openings in the world’s most vibrant gateway cities and exotic resort destinations including Langkawi, Kuala Lumpur, Maldives, Changsha and Cairo. The brand currently has 22 hotels in the pipeline and is expected to reach more than 60 hotels by 2020.
