A Distinguished Lineage: The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts traces its distinguished heritage to Compagnia Italiana Grandi Alberghi (CIGA), a company founded in 1906 as an Italian hotel owner/operator and listed on the Milan Stock Exchange in 1921. In 1985 Prince Karim Aga Khan acquired a controlling interest in CIGA and began to expand upon the company’s vast activities outside Italy, most notably with purchases in Spain and Austria. CIGA later expanded in geographic focus to include properties and real estate in Sardinia. Today, under the Starwood banner, The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts is a glittering ensemble of more than 100 of the world’s finest hotels and resorts in more than 30 countries.

The Luxury Collection Restored Icons: Recently, The Luxury Collection unveiled the results of its meticulous restorations of several of Europe’s most historic and iconic hotel properties. Each one of these hotels is a central landmark in its destination, with immense local historical and social importance. Leading experts, craftsmen and designers ensured that these local treasures shine once again. The Luxury Collection presented the restoration of the legendary Alfonso XIII in historic Seville – the most eminent and charismatic hotel in southern Spain. Across the country, another iconic restoration was revealed in Spain’s culinary and film capital of San Sebastian – the hundred year old Belle Époque gem, Hotel Maria Cristina. A third restored icon re-opened its doors, in time for the 2014 Venice International Biennale of Contemporary Art – the magnificent Gritti Palace, located on Venice’s Grand Canal. In Paris, the Luxury Collection unveiled the restored Art Deco treasure the Prince de Galles – enchanting guests since 1928 with intimate and personalized luxury on the Avenue George V. The Austrian capital saw the debut of restored suites and public spaces at Hotel Bristol, as well as Hotel Imperial which was brought back to its original grandeur with a complete restoration of the public spaces, bar and restaurant. More recently, in 2015, both the iconic Palace Hotel in San Francisco and landmark St. Anthony hotel in San Antonio were revealed after all encompassing, multi-million dollar renovations.

Growth: The Luxury Collection has an extraordinary year coming up with the opening of four new hotels around the world. The brand will add signature properties to the collection in key destinations including Cuba with Hotel Inglaterra in Havana and The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho.
